About this tool
Scanning a stack of paper leaves blank pages behind: the empty backs of one-sided sheets, separator pages, the last page of a duplex run. Deleting them by hand means opening the file, scrolling through it, noting the numbers and hoping you did not miscount. This does the counting, shows you every page, and rewrites the file without the ones you agree to drop.
Detection works on pixels rather than text, so it handles scans as happily as digital documents: each page is rendered small and the share of non-white pixels measured. What that number has to fall below is up to you, and it needs to be, because a blank page is a judgement call. A sheet carrying nothing but a page number in the footer is empty to somebody archiving a report and not empty to somebody preserving a legal document. The sensitivity slider moves that line, and the page grid updates as you drag it, so you can watch the decision change rather than guess at it.
The second control matters more than it looks. Page numbers, headers, punch holes and the dark band a scanner leaves along an edge all sit near the border of the page, and all of them register as content. Ignoring an outer margin excludes them from the measurement without touching how the rest of the page is judged, which is usually a cleaner fix than making detection less sensitive everywhere. The large preview draws the region being measured, so you can see exactly what is being left out.
Nothing is removed without your say-so: detection only proposes, and every page can be overridden either way. Pages you keep are copied into the new document untouched, so there is no re-compression and the text stays selectable. It all happens in your browser, which matters for the scanned contracts, records and correspondence this tends to get used on.
Frequently asked questions
- How does it decide a page is blank?
- Each page is rendered small and the share of non-white pixels is measured. Below a threshold the page counts as blank. The threshold is yours to set, because "blank" is a judgement call: a page carrying nothing but a footer page number is empty to some people and not to others. Nothing is ever removed without showing you first.
- My pages have page numbers or specks in the corner. Can I still use it?
- Yes, in two ways. Raise the sensitivity so a small mark no longer counts as content, or raise the ignored margin so the edges of the page are left out of the measurement entirely. The margin control is the better fit for page numbers, headers, punch holes and the dark border a scanner leaves, since those all sit near the edge.
- Are my documents uploaded anywhere?
- No. The PDF is rendered, measured and rewritten by JavaScript in your browser, so it never leaves your device. The pages you keep are copied across untouched: there is no re-compression, and the text stays selectable.
