About this tool

Convert between Fahrenheit, Celsius, Kelvin and Rankine in any direction. Temperature is not a simple multiplication, so the math handles each scale's offset for you. The freezing point of water reads 32 °F, 0 °C and 273.15 K.

The "all units" table shows your temperature on every scale at once, which is the quickest way to sanity-check a reading. A famous quirk: -40 °F and -40 °C are the same temperature, and you can confirm it above.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert Fahrenheit to Celsius?
Subtract 32, then divide by 1.8. So 98.6 °F is 37 °C, and 212 °F is 100 °C. Enter a value above for the exact result.
What is 0 Kelvin?
Absolute zero: about -273.15 °C or -459.67 °F. Kelvin starts there and uses the same step size as Celsius.
What is Rankine?
An absolute scale like Kelvin, but using Fahrenheit-sized steps. It shows up in some US engineering work, so it is included here.
