Cooking Converter
Convert cups, tablespoons, teaspoons, ounces and grams, by ingredient.
About this tool
Convert between the units you actually use while cooking: cups, tablespoons, teaspoons, fluid ounces, milliliters, grams and ounces. Volume-to-volume and weight-to-weight conversions are exact. To go between a volume and a weight, pick the ingredient so the tool can use its density.
That ingredient step is what makes "1 cup of flour in grams" actually correct: flour, sugar and honey all weigh different amounts per cup. The densities here are typical values and approximate, since packing and brand vary. To scale a whole recipe up or down, use the recipe scaler.
Frequently asked questions
- How many grams is a cup of flour?
- About 125 g for all-purpose flour. It depends on the ingredient, which is why you pick one here: a cup of sugar is about 200 g and a cup of honey is about 340 g.
- How many teaspoons are in a tablespoon?
- Three. One tablespoon is 3 teaspoons, and one US cup is 16 tablespoons. Converting between volume units does not need an ingredient.
- Why do I have to choose an ingredient?
- Only when converting between volume (cups, tablespoons) and weight (grams, ounces). A cup of feathers and a cup of lead weigh different amounts, so the tool needs the ingredient density. The densities are typical values and approximate.
